Over the years, I have written a number of posts addressing literacy in the world language classroom. I used to think that the lower literacy levels which I am currently seeing in my students was the result of the "Covid/hybrid years," but I am not so sure any more. I highly suggest that you listen to (and relisten to) the podcast series "Sold a Story" which focuses on how students have been taught to "read" (note the quotation marks implying doubt) these past 30 years or so. I will include the link here in this list.
